The annual UK Worker of the Year award is a toughly-fought contest, designed to recognise the hard work of the nation’s most talented workers. Now in its fourth year, we were thrilled to see that in 2013, an electrician was among the finalists!
The event, sponsored by Dickies and Suzuki GB, recognises individuals committed to working with a standard of excellence. Mark Hughes, a self-employed electrician from Oxfordshire, was shortlisted for the 2013 award – one of only eight finalists battling it out for the title.
29 year old Mark works with industrial, domestic and commercial clients, providing him with an exciting and varied set of work. Initially employed by an electrical contractors in Reading, he decided to set up his own company – Current Electrical Solutions Ltd – eighteen months ago. Operating from his base in Henley-on-Thames, Mark’s new-found position as a Worker of the Year Finalist has put the electrical profession well and truly on the map.
Speaking to the Electrical Times, Mark said, ‘I am both honoured and excited to be considered for UK WOTY 2013. Just to make it through to the final and be recognised for the hard work I have put in whilst being employed and in setting up my own business is something I never expected. This award could give me the opportunity to inspire other young people that with hard work and ambition they too can achieve their career goals.’
All that remains to be said is congratulations!
